The association, however, accepted that there might be violations to some extent in some commercial buildings as the administration was still trying to implement and rely upon obsolete building byelaws of Punjab Capital Act 1952, which did not match with the existing setup and structure of Chandigarh.

It further stressed that the rules framed under Punjab Capital Act of 1952 needed to be reviewed as it had grown manifold with no change in commercial and residential areas. Members emphasised that the internal changes in premises should be allowed after caring for structural stability of the building.

Other traders suggested that building plans should be approved without delay. The association assured to call a meeting of all the representatives of traders, industrialists, and others organisations to guide them to remove violations known to them, if any, and to cooperate with the estate office which would create a trader and estate office-friendly atmosphere in the city.
