Turning P’kula into smart city on BJP agenda

Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidate from Panchkula assembly seat, Gian Chand Gupta, on Tuesday, released the party manifesto ‘Sankalp Patra’. In his manifesto, Gupta promised to make Panchkula a smart city.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidate from Panchkula assembly seat, Gian Chand Gupta, on Tuesday, released the party manifesto ‘Sankalp Patra’. In his manifesto, Gupta promised to make Panchkula a smart city.

Gupta claimed that manifesto was a “well thought-out development agenda” for the city.
“If Panchkula gets the status of a smart city, it will get a special package which will ensure the best of facilities,” he said.

The manifesto proposes a varsity called ‘Guru Gobind Singh University for Panchkula, an engineering college and medical college and a well-equipped hospital on par with PGIMER, Chandigarh. Other promises include skill education in schools and colleges, implementation of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Act in Panchkula’s industrial area residential facilities for industrial workers in their work place.

The manifesto also promises to provide an entry to the Chandigarh railway station on the Panchkula side with facilities like a booking counter which will operate till late and provision for elevators for the elderly. Gupta also promised the formation of capital region development board along the line of the NCR for SAS Nagar, Panchkula and Chandigarh.
