Two booked for raping elderly NRI woman

Two persons were booked in a case of rape of a non-resident Indian (NRI) woman at Kharar in SAS Nagar on Thursday night. The accused have been identified as Kala, 25, a resident of Barnala, and Karnail Kaur, a resident of Kharar and native of Moga.

Two persons were booked in a case of rape of a non-resident Indian (NRI) woman at Kharar in SAS Nagar on Thursday night.

The accused have been identified as Kala, 25, a resident of Barnala, and Karnail Kaur, a resident of Kharar and native of Moga.

According to the complaint, the victim had come to India from Canada for undergoing psychological counselling at Chandigarh. She was staying at her friend’s place in Patiala.

On October 28, she was raped when she was staying at Karnail Kaur’s place in Kharar.

In the complaint, the victim had said that she had an appointment with a psychiatrist in Chandigarh on October 29 and had therefore, decided to stay at Karnail Kaur’s place in Kharar on October 28.

She alleged that on the night of October 28, Karnail Kaur allowed Kala into her room.

The victim had said that Kala sexually assaulted her.

As per the complaint, she returned to Patiala and stayed at another friend’s after the incident.

After discussing the issue with her friend, she lodged a police complaint on Thursday night.

Police said the accused were on the run. Soon after registering the FIR, the police raided Karnail Kaur’s residence and found it to be empty.

Police officials said they were investigating the case and efforts to nab the accused were on.
