A man and his son sustained injuries after being shot at by a relative in a showroom in the Phase 7 market here on Monday.
The victims have been identified as Harinder Singh Aulakh and his son Yuvraj Singh Aulakh, who also own a shop in the Phase 7 market and are into the business of selling dog feed.
The accused has been identified as Shinder Singh alias Shinda, a resident of Badmajra in SAS Nagar. The incident took place in the showroom owned by another relative, who is a cloth trader.
Shinda and Aulakhs are relatives, but they share a bad relationship. Police sources alleged that Harinder’s wife was having illicit relations with Shinda, which was the main reason of the brawl.
Harinder had complanied against Shinda in Chandigarh and Shinda wanted them to take back the complaint.
The police said the incident took place around 2pm when Yuvraj was sitting in the cloth trader’s shop. Meanwhile, Shinda also came at the shop and they entered into a fight. Yuvraj allegedly thrashed Shinda with a rod. After listening to Shinda’s screams, Harinder too joined his son and started thrashing Shinda. In the meantime, Shinda fired four gunshots on the legs of Harinder and Yuvraj.
An eyewitness, Gurpeet Singh, said after hearing the gunshots, he came out of the next shop where he was playing pool. He said he saw Shinda and Yuvraj manhandling each other and they came out of the shop. He added that Yuvraj was bleeding from one of his legs, while Shinda managed to flee.

{{/usCountry}}People present on the spot informed the police, who immediately swung into action and arrested Shinda from a distance.
Both injured were rushed to a private hospital where the doctors stated their condition to be stable. While disclosing the condition of the victims, the hospital authorities said Harinder received wounds on his left and right thighs, while Yuvraj was injured in his right knee.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP, city 1) Alam Vijay Singh said four bullet shells were recovered from inside the showroom. He added that while interrogating the accused claimed having the licence of the weapon used in the crime. However, the police were yet to procure it.
The police sources said during interrogation, the accused revealed that he opened fire in self-defence.
A case under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act was registered against Shinda.
