Punjab unit of AAP has been constantly in turmoil ever since the party received an overwhelming response in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Punjab proved to be a face-saver for the party as it was the only state that gave representation to AAP in the Lok Sabha.

The recent move of the party to suspend its MPs, Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi and Harinder Singh Khalsa have increased its challenge to emerge as a strong contender in the 2017 Punjab assembly elections.

Here are five challenges that the party is facing in Punjab:

1. Lack of proper organisational structure: AAP's failure to create a proper organisational structure in Punjab despite an overwhelming response in Lok Sabha polls can definitely affect party’s prospects in the state.2. Unclear objectives: The central leadership of AAP has been trying to run the party affairs in Punjab by way of adhocism and failed to give a clear roadmap to its leadership and what it wants to achieve in the state after attaining political power.

3. Party reigns in Chhotepur’s hands: Handing over state unit's leadership to Sucha Singh Chhotepur, who has been rejected by the people of Punjab during his previous political outings, can have an impact on the party’s future in the state.

5. Overambitious leaders: The unprecedented response to AAP in Lok Sabha has made majority of its leaders over-ambitious and they would go all out to run each other down and block entry of new faces from other political outfits.
