Two youths held for illegal possession of fire arm

Two youths were today arrested for allegedly firing in air from an unlicensed fire arm after they were stopped at a check-post here.

"We stopped a SUV bearing Punjab registration plates as part of a special checking drive in the city. After the vehicle was intercepted, the youth who was driving it fired from his pistol in air," said Diwan Singh, SHO of Sector 34 police station.

He said that the youths, identified as Nitinpreet Brar and Gurpreet Singh, had made an unsuccessful attempt to escape after the incident, which occurred close to the high-security Burail jail.

The unlicensed 9mm pistol was seized from them, the SHO said, adding that further probes are on.
