The examination is conducted by Panjab University for enrollment to various courses offered by 30-odd institutes in Chandigarh as well as Punjab, including some under the varsity, such as UIET.

The institute has dropped Computer Science, IT and Electronics and Engineering (ECE) from its list and will now admit students on the basis of the national-level Graduate Aptitude Test in
Engineering (GATE) examination for these subjects.

CET coordinator AS Ahluwalia told HT that the CET PG examination would be conducted for a total of thirty-eight subjects this year.

“While PU’s UIET has dropped three subjects, National Institute of Teachers Training and Research (NITTR) has added five to its list,” he said.

The five subjects added by NITTTR are ME electronics and communication, ME electrical engineering and instrumentation control), ME computer science and engineering, ME in civil engineering in construction technology and management and ME in mechanical engineering.

“We have been able to make it transparent and competitive, besides ensuring that the process is foolproof. This is the reason why institutes are increasingly opting for the CET,” he said.

Citing reasons for dropping the subjects, UIET director Renu Vig said that admitting students through GATE allows students to access the scholarships offered under it.

In order to ensure a hasslefree process for submission of forms, officials said that PU plans to open a help desk at various colleges across Punjab and Chandigarh to encourage students to submit online applications.

The varsity also already released its examination schedule. The last date for submitting forms is May 20. The prospectus with details of number of seats and application forms can be accessed at cetpg.puchd.ac.in cetpg.puchd.ac.in.
