Councillors representing the southern sectors blame MC for giving priority to northern sectors and neglecting their wards.

The most affected sectors included internal roads of Ram Darbar, Sectors 15, 41, 42, 44, 45 and Industrial Area Phase 1.

Also, in the MC house meeting held in January, rising above the party lines, councillors lashed out at officials over bad conditions of roads in the city. They said most of the roads were in a bad shape and officers lacked coordination when they executed road development works.

Nominated councillor Surinder Bahga raised the question of not following proper practice principles to check the quality of road. He said it was either checked at National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Sector 26, or Punjab Engineering College, Sector 12. Bahga said it should be checked at the public works department, Punjab, which was equipped with latest equipment and technology and could not be manipulated by anyone.

Chief engineer of MC, Mukesh Anand says, every year, we re-carpet around 300 km of roads and now we have already floated tenders for the said 90 km of internal roads and are hopeful that work will be completed before March 31 this year.
