Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) secretary general and Rajya Sabha MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa on Thursday raised the issue of paucity of urea in Punjab, stating that the state urgently needed 1.5 lakh tonnes of urea for the current rabi crops.

Highlighting the matter in the Rajya Sabha, Dhindsa said chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had also conveyed his concerns through a letter that farmers of the state had not got urea even though the sowing period had ended on November 30, an SAD spokesman said here.
Seeking the Centre's immediate attention in providing the fertiliser to the state farmers, he said this shortage could lead to severe decline in the foodgrain production for the country.
