The Central government has sought some more time from the court to file its status report to which the court agreed and posted the case for the next hearing to December 15.

The information was submitted to the high court during the resumed hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by a Chandigarh resident, Gurbax Singh Shergill.

The master plan is a vision for the city’s development till 2031, and the Chandigarh administration has exhausted several deadlines granted by the high court for its completion. The Central government also informed the court that in the last meeting on September 19, the secretary of urban development ministry had directed the representatives of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh to immediately initiate the dialogue process and come out with agreeable contours for early finalisation of the regional plan within a definite time frame.
