Fathegarh Sahib's Civil Hospital doctor R K Garg has been suspended for "gross negligence" and other charges while treating VC Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia, who was shot at from close range in the varsity campus and was rushed to the hospital in a serious condition, an official spokesman said here.

Garg has also been chargesheeted for dereliction in duties, he said.

Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Satpal Gosain had ordered ESI director Satwant Bhalla to conduct an inquiry into the incident to ascertain the facts.

The enquiry report said Garg "neither summoned any medical nor surgical specialist to treat Ahluwalia who was brought in a precarious condition at 3.37 pm on August one" after being shot.

He also didn't bother to inform his superiors, the Civil Surgeon and the Senior Medical Officer who were holding a meeting on the second floor of the hospital at the time when the VC was brought in, it said.

Police has arrested a person named Jora Singh, who has confessed that he shot at the acamedician out of "humiliation" and "insult" he faced when one of his relatives was denied admission in the varsity.
