In the kidnapping and murder of six-year-old Mehram Singh Sandhu, police have sent samples for DNA test to identify the body that was found from Sector 69 in SAS Nagar on November 7.
Sources in the police said the samples were sent on the request of Mehram’s family members as the forensic experts raised questions over the age of the body.
Confirming the development, superintendent of police (SP, headquarters) Harpal Singh Sandhu said samples have been sent for the DNA test as per the demand of the Mehram’s family.
The sources also revealed the police did not recommend DNA test in every murder case.
In this case, the family members were not sure if it was Mehram’s body as it was decomposed and they had identified it only with the help of the clothes.
More than 50% of the body was highly decomposed and reduced to a skeleton.
On the other hand, the post-mortem report is still pending and can bring some clarity on the age of the victim.

Mehram went missing from near his house on October 28. The boy’s body was found buried in a dumping ground of Sector 69 on November 7 by a garbage collector.
Rs 1-lakh reward
After releasing the sketch of the accused, police have announced Rs 1 lakh reward of and have ensured that identity of the informer would not be disclosed.
