The Tohana MLA, who was appointed as the Haryana BJP new chief yesterday, said BJP for the first time had come to power on its own in the state and therefore people have high hopes from this government.

"That's where the challenges come and I fully accept it. We are committed to implement all the promises we made in our poll manifesto," the 47-year-old leader said.

In the October 15 assembly polls, BJP had won 47 of the 90 assembly seats, wresting power from the Congress.

Barala succeeds Ram Bilas Sharma who has become a minister in the Manohar Lal Khattar government in Haryana.

A new organisational set up would also be put in place soon and Coordination and Monitoring Committees would also be formed, he said.

"We are proud to say this that we draw strength from the RSS on ideological front," he said.

Haryana cabinet minister Ram Bilas Sharma, who was also present here said he earlier headed state unit in 1990 and in the last month's state assembly polls, the party had registered win when he was the state chief.

"It's been a long journey of struggle for us all throughthese years. Now, the BJP is in power in Haryana and I have full faith and confidence that under Barala ji the party would be further strengthened and touch new heights," Sharma said.

He also said that the BJP was targeting to enroll 33 lakh members under its membership drive over the next five months.
