When the incident took place Malayakar was alone in her house in Sector 9 here on Friday. While she lives on the second floor, her landlords live on ground floor but were not at home. Her husband works in Baddi and had already left.

A person came to her house posing as a plumber. He told her that there was a complaint regarding a tap and she took him inside.

While he was repairing the tap, he asked her to bring a cloth. As she turned, he held her from back and tried to overpower her. But Malayakar fought back.

“She kicked him hard and also bit him. She got injured in the tooth also,” said station house officer, Sector 5 police station, inspector Baljeet Singh.

The plumber managed to free himself and he came out of the house. But the woman held him again and raised the alarm. The plumber ultimately fled the spot.

“We have registered a case under sections 452 (trespass), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 342 read with 511 (attempt to wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). We have launched a hunt to nab the accused, who was unknown to the woman. More sections will be added after her medical examination,” said inspector Baljeet.

“We appeal to the people not to allow entry of unknown people in their houses without verification,” said Baljeet.
