64 women rescued after police raids illegal dance bar in Bengaluru
CCB has raided an illegal dance bar in Gandhinagar, Bengaluru and arrested 9 people to rescue 64 women. The BBMP has been notified by police so that the bar and restaurant's license be revoked.
On Wednesday night, Central Crime Branch (CCB) officers raided a bar and restaurant in Gandhinagar for allegedly operating an illegal dance bar. Nine people were detained, and 64 women were rescued. According to police, six people were running the bar in collaboration with three employees who had joined forces with them to run it.
According to police, the women, who were initially hired as waitresses, were forced to wear obscene outfits and dance in front of customers at Mood Bar and Restaurant on 5th Main in Gandhinagar. Customers were even allowed to throw money at the girls.
On Wednesday night, a team of sleuths from the CCB's Women Protection Wing raided the bar. As per the police, the bar was operating without a valid occupation certificate (OC) from the appropriate authorities. They even hired a DJ to play music on the premises without proper permission.
74 people have been apprehended by police. There are eight women from Maharashtra and Punjab, six from Delhi, 13 from Rajasthan, three from Madhya Pradesh, two each from Uttarakhand and West Bengal, five from Uttar Pradesh, and 17 from Karnataka among the 64 women rescued.
A music system and ₹1.3 lakh were seized, and a case was opened at the Upparpet police station. Meanwhile, police officials have written to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to cancel the bar and restaurant's license. The women were taken to a rehabilitation center, according to police, and the customers were released with a warning.
