The incident happened in the sixth over of Sri Lankan second innings when Kusal Mendis was taking treatment after being hit by a Mohammed Shami delivery. Sensing an opportunity to see their star player from close, four fans of cricketer Virat Kohli had jumped over the metal fence installed at the stadium, evaded security before taking selfies with the cricketer. Although Kohli obliged his fans, they were taken into custody by police present at the stadium.

“In connection with the Pink Ball Test match between India Vs Sri Lanka at M Chinnaswamy Stadium… 4 miscreants trespassed into the play area during a medical break in the play. They were apprehended and removed from the stadium,” stated a statement from deputy commissioner of police (central) MN Anuchet.

Among those booked two accused persons are adults and two are minors. One adult fan is from Kalaburagi and others from Bengaluru.

Talking about the minor security breach, senior India pacer Jasprit Bumrah did not make a huge fuss about the incident but admitted that security indeed is an issue.

“That is something we don’t control, obviously the security concern is an issue. Suddenly, we realised that there were intruders but thankfully the officials intervened. We don’t know what to say about that, the craze of the game is very high and the fans get emotional sometimes,” he said during the press briefing. (With inputs from PTI)
