Mangaluru news: Ex-bank employee found dead in Netravati river, probable suicide
The man went missing from Saturday morning and family members filed a police compliant.
The body of a 65-year-old man was found in the Netravati River near Mangaluru on Sunday evening. The man has been identified as Vishwanatha and police officials said he was a retired bank employee. The incident was reported near Adamkuru area which comes under the Kankanady Police Station limits. Speaking to Hindustan Times, a police official said, "On July 24, we found a dead body at Netravathi river at 9 pm. We found out that the deceased is a retired bank employee in Mangaluru and we suspect of a suicide. The body was examined and sent to postmortem. We are waiting for the autopsy report."
The police also confirmed the man left his home on Saturday morning at 9 am; he told his family members he was going for a blood pressure checkup in Mangaluru. After he failed to return home, his family launched a wide search but could not locate him.
They filed a missing complaint that evening.
Tragically, the man was found dead in the river the next night.
The Netravati river has been flowing at dangerous levels due to recent heavy rains and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a warning for people who live in the area.
