A 22-year-old migrant labourer was found dead in the wee hours on Monday in Kapurthala’s Nadala town.
The deceased has been identified as Suraj, who hailed from Bihar and was putting up in a rented accommodation in Nadala with other migrant labourers.
Police said in the preliminary investigation that the victim had an altercation with his fellow roommates over ₹30 on Sunday evening.
“In the initial probe, it was found that the victim was strangled to death in his room by the accused, who managed to flee after committing the crime,” the police said.
The matter came to light when his relatives visited him on Monday morning and found him dead. He was rushed to a local hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
A case has been registered under section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
