Speeding bus mows down 26-year-old to death in Ludhiana
After the mishap, a heavy traffic jam was witnessed on the stretch. Later, the police removed the bus and restored the traffic movement
A 26-year-old man died after he was mowed down by an over speeding passenger bus of a private transport company at Gill Road on Wednesday.
The driver of the bus fled after leaving the vehicle on the spot. The victim has been identified as Amit Kumar Dube, 26, of Pippal Chowk of Daba. He used to work as a labourer. The body has been sent to civil hospital for postmortem.
According to the eyewitnesses, when Dube reached near Advance Training Institute (ATI), a speeding auto hit him due to which he fell on the road. The onlookers tried to stop the auto driver, but he managed to escape. Meanwhile, a bus of Malwa Transport crushed him to death. After the mishap, a heavy traffic jam was witnessed on the stretch. Later, the police removed the bus and restored the traffic movement.
Inspector Balwinder Kaur, SHO at police station Division number 6, said that the police lodged an FIR under sections 279 (reckless driving), 304-A (causing death due to negligence) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the IPC against the driver of the bus.
The SHO added that they are investigating to know if an auto driver had hit the victim before the bus crushed him to death.
