The victim, Nishan Singh, was rushed to a local hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Police said 8-9 bullets pierced through the victim’s body.

Senior superintendent of police Tushar Gupta said the attack appeared to be a fallout of an old rivalry with another group. “Several teams have been constituted to arrest the accused, who will be identified on the basis of technical and digital evidences collected from the spot,” Gupta said.

The victim’s family told police that Nishan, who had returned from UK a few years ago, was attacked last year as well, but he managed to get away. “We had informed police about death threats to Nishan, but no action was taken,” the family said.

Police have registered a case under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and other sections of the Arms Act at the Aur police station.
