A 43-year-old resident of Badesero village, Hoshiarpur, who was found carrying 600 vials of banned injections on November 2, 2018, has been sentenced to 15 years rigorous imprisonment (RI).

The court also imposed a fine of 2,00,000 on the convict, Gurudev Ram. The accused was arrested at a check post near ISBT Sector 43. According to case files, Gurudev was arrested on suspicion and upon searching him 300 injections of buprenorphine and 300 ampules of advil, both restricted injections, were recovered from his possession.

A case under Section 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered at Sector 36 police station.

In the trial, nine witnesses were examined by the prosecution, while the accused alleged that he was falsely implicated. In court, Gurudev’s defense council alleged that no independent witnesses joined the recovery proceedings and hence there was no compliance of Section 50 NDPS Act. The council, further contended that the contraband was not recovered from the accused but planted on him.
