According to reports, Singh was helping demolish an old house, along with several associates, when the concrete roof unexpectedly gave way. He sustained critical injuries in the collapse and later succumbed to them. Another young man who was present at the site also lost his life in the incident.

The deaths cast a pall of grief over the region. Singh was a highly respected religious figure, who devoted decades to selfless service at Gurdwara Damdama Sahib, a historic shrine associated with Guru Hargobind, the sixth Sikh Guru.

Several religious leaders, social organisations and political personalities expressed deep sorrow and extended their condolences to the bereaved families.
