Bribery case: Punjab VB submits challan against former minister Arora

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Monday submitted the chargesheet (Challan) against accused former minister Sunder Sham Arora in a local court. Arora was held in a bribery case.

Punjab VB had arrested Arora, red handed from Zirakpur on October 15 and recovered 50 lakh which he allegedly brought to handover it to Manmohan Kumar, Assistant Inspector General,VB, Flying Squad, Punjab as a graft to settle the ongoing cases against him. VB submitted the challan in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Avtar Singh under Section 8 (Taking gratification, in order, by corrupt or illegal means, to influence public servant) of prevention of corruption act.

Around 150 pages Challan includes a total of 20 witnesses.

A VB officer said that the supplementary chargesheet would be presented in due course as further investigation is being conducted in this case. The spokesperson of the VB said that a bribery case was registered against the former minister of Punjab on the complaint of Manmohan Kumar.

AIG Manmohan Kumar submitted a complaint with the Chief Director, Vigilance Bureau, Punjab, stating that on October 14, 2022 he received a WhatsApp call from Sundar Sham Arora.

“After informing the officer about the demise of his wife, the former minister wished to meet the AIG at his house. Arora arrived at the house of the complainant and started discussing the matter pending against him in the VB. To get help on this matter he offered a bribe amounting to 1 crore. The accused further offered the complainant to pay half the amount of 50 Lakh as advance the next day i.e. on October 15, 2022 and the remaining to be paid later on,” stated VB in the challan.
