As per the police complaint, the victim Ram Raji had parked his motorcycle near the railway station and gone to Ambala on December 21, 2017. While returning, he was stopped by a few people who thrashed him and stole his mobile phone and wallet.
A case under Section 392 (robbery) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at the Industrial Area police station. Accused Amit Kumar was arrested, while two juveniles were apprehended.
Claiming innocence, Kumar opted for trial. The prosecution examined five witnesses who all supported the prosecution’s version. The defence, meanwhile, rejected the allegations and argued that no independent witness has joined the investigation, but the court observed that this does not hold any ground and convicted the accused.
