Chandigarh MC begins work of cattle waste treatment plants at gaushalas

Chandigarh MC said it was essential to construct ETPs at the gaushalas to treat the liquid excreta of the animals before discharging it into the estate sewerage system to prevent any harmful impact

Aimed at treating the wastewater generated from the gaushalas, the municipal corporation (MC) on Monday started the work of installation of effluent treatment plants (ETP) at gaushalas in Maloya and Industrial Area Phase-I.

City mayor Anup Gupta laid the foundation stones in the presence of MC commissioner Anindita Mitra and area councillors Nirmala Devi and Bimla Dubey.

“MC has renovated the gaushala in Maloya by providing better infrastructure facilities at a cost of ₹80 lakh. The work of installation of ETP at Maloya gaushala will be completed within two months at a cost of ₹1.21 crore having a capacity of 30 killo litre per day whereas the installation of ETP at a gaushala in the Industrial Area will be completed within two months at a cost of ₹1 crore having capacity of 20 KLD,” said the mayor.

Gupta said it was essential to construct ETPs at the gaushalas to treat the liquid excreta of the animals before discharging it into the estate sewerage system to prevent any harmful impact on the environment and maintain the hygiene and sanitation levels of the city.
