Chandigarh police book nihangs for assault at Mataur barrier

A 49-year-old woman from Ludhiana alleged that she was assaulted and molested by a Nihang, identified as Sandeep Singh, around 10.30 am. In her complaint, she said the accused abused her, forcibly pulled her, tore her clothes and hit her with a stick, besides issuing threats.

UT police have booked several Nihangs following two separate complaints of assault and alleged molestation during a clash at the Quami Insaf Morcha site near the Mattaur barrier on the Sector 51/52 dividing road on Monday.

A 49-year-old woman from Ludhiana alleged that she was assaulted and molested by a Nihang, identified as Sandeep Singh, around 10.30 am. In her complaint, she said the accused abused her, forcibly pulled her, tore her clothes and hit her with a stick, besides issuing threats.

In another complaint, Jaswant Singh, 66, a resident of Sunny Enclave, Mohali, alleged that he and other morcha participants were attacked during a meeting at the same site. He named Meera, Harpreet Singh Jaugi, Shera and six to seven unidentified nihangs as the assailants.

Police sources said cases have been registered and statements of witnesses are being recorded. However, no arrests have been made so far.
