A 31-year-old man from Shimla was found dead, of suspected drug overdose, near the forest area between Sector 38 and Sector 38 West on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Manish Kashyap, an electrician who had arrived in the city about two days ago to visit family members.
According to police, Kashyap had told his family on Saturday that he was going out for a haircut but did not return. His body was recovered the next day. Family members, however, alleged foul play and claimed he had been murdered.
Maloya police initiated inquest proceedings after a preliminary probe revealed that Kashyap frequently consumed alcohol and drugs, and could have died of overdose. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
