The representatives contended said that Chandigarh is the only place in India where teaching and non-teaching staff has not been granted the benefits of revised pay scales, which have been in effect from January 1, 2016.

“There seems to be an attempt to sabotage the initiative taken by the central government to save Chandigarh’s education sector by de-linking it from Punjab,” they said.

Student representatives also extended their support to the teachers’ demands. Giving a 15-day ultimatum to the UT administration, they warned that if the teachers’ demands are not met they will not allow the next semester to start in January 2023.
