Charuni calls for unity among farmers at rally in Ambala Cantonment

Celebrating the second anniversary of the beginning of the agitation against the now-scrapped three farm laws, national president of Bhartiya Kisan Union’s Charuni faction, Gurnam Singh Charuni, asked farmer to remain united if they want the government to accept their demands in the future.
He was addressing a rally at grain market on NH-44 near Mohra village in Ambala Cantonment, where farmers and activists affiliated to the union had arrived on their tractor-trolleys from places across Haryana and Punjab. They also observed the birth anniversary of Sir Chotu Ram, a social reformer from pre-independence era.
The Charuni faction had given an ultimatum to the state government to withdraw criminal cases registered against the farmers during the 2020-21 agitation, else face road blockade near the market. However, after assurance from home minister Anil Vij on Wednesday, the call was taken back.
Addressing the gathering, Charuni thanked the minister and the state government, as the protest would have led to inconvenience for commuters.
“Our unity is so strong that stubborn JP Dalal (agriculture minister) had to allow early paddy procurement due to our road blockade in Shahabad in September,” the farmer leader said.
Charuni was also seemingly upset over low strength at the rally, stating that many farmers cancelled their plan to attend it after the chakka jam was called-off. However, he congratulated a few of them for driving to the rally site from as far as Tarn Taran and Amritsar.
After the rally, the union leaders submitted a memorandum to deputy commissioner Priyanka Soni and SP Jashandeep Singh Randhawa, demanding withdrawal of criminal cases lodged against farmers in Delhi and Chandigarh; MSP guarantee and fixing of sugarcane prices at ₹450. Soni said the demand letter will be sent to the government at the earliest.
