The Division number 8 police have registered a case against a city resident, Aman Verma, after a college student alleged that he blackmailed her with obscene photographs, threatened to upload them on social media, and snatched her mobile phone outside her college following the end of their relationship.

According to the complaint, the student came in contact with the accused through Instagram in 2024. What began as an online friendship gradually turned into a relationship that lasted for nearly a year. However, when she decided to end the relationship, the accused allegedly began harassing and threatening her.
The complainant alleged that the accused threatened to make her private photos viral on social media and also issued death threats to her and her family. She further claimed that he confronted her in Ghumar Mandi, where he displayed her pictures to intimidate her and forcibly took away her mobile phone.
Sub-inspector Simran Singh, investigating officer, said a case has been registered against Aman Verma under Sections 75 (sexual harassment) and 315 (2) (dishonest misappropriation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The sub-inspector added that the matter is being examined from all angles and further action will be taken following the investigation.
