The 14th Dalai Lama is scheduled to depart his home in exile in Dharamshala on Friday for New Delhi, where he will undergo surgery on his left knee.

Following his recovery, the 90-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader is expected to travel to Ladakh toward the end of June for an extended stay, which will likely include celebrations for his 91st birthday on July 6.
This upcoming medical trip follows a successful knee replacement surgery the Nobel Peace Laureate underwent in New York in June 2024. While he previously downplayed the initial surgery as “nothing serious,” the spiritual leader now walks gingerly with the assistance of aides and relies on a golf cart to navigate longer distances within his Dharamshala compound.
