While this is in line with its forecast for above average heat this year, the temperature is likely to rise further in the coming days as per officials.

The maximum temperature rose from 34.3°C on Wednesday to 35.1°C on Thursday, 3.5 degrees above normal. This is the highest that the maximum temperature had gone last year as well. A temperature of 35.1°C was recorded on March 29, 2024. While the maximum temperature had gone up to 37°C on March 31 2022, the all-time high, as per IMD, is 38.2°C, which was recorded at the airport on March 25, 2010.

Speaking about the heat, IMD Chandigarh director Surender Paul said, “With no active Western Disturbances (WD) likely to affect the city in the coming days, we can expect the weather to get hotter and drier. Temperature is likely to stay above the average values in the coming days as well.” While there is a WD over Jammu and Kashmir, it hasn’t had much of an impact on this region.
