Kumar was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for his role in the killing of Jaswant Singh and his son Tarundeep Singh in Saraswati Vihar on November 1, 1984.

A division bench of justices Vivek Chaudhary and Manoj Jain admitted the appeal and sought a response from the investigating agency on Kumar’s plea for suspension of his sentence. The bench has listed the matter for hearing on January 28.

Advocates Anil Kumar Sharma, Apoorv Sharma, and Anuj Sharma, representing Kumar, contended that his name was added at a later stage and was not part of the case initially.

Earlier, on February 25, the Rouse Avenue Court had awarded two life sentences to Sajjan Kumar, rejecting the prosecution’s plea for the death penalty, citing his age, ailments and other mitigating factors.
