Disproportionate assets complaint: Vigilance team assesses retd ADGP’S property

The probe was ordered based on a complaint that the ADGP had amassed wealth compared to his known sources of income and had built a posh farmhouse

Chandigarh: Punjab vigilance and anti-corruption bureau, on Wednesday, assessed a farmhouse owned by Punjab police’s retired additional director general of police (ADGP) Rakesh Chandra, situated in Mohali district on the outskirts of Chandigarh in a disproportionate assets (DA) case.

According to a senior VB functionary, Chandra’s posh farmhouse was assessed in the probe related to disproportionate assets.

The probe was ordered based on a complaint that the ADGP had amassed wealth compared to his known sources of income and had built a posh farmhouse.

Chandra retired as ADGP earlier this year and had worked as special principal secretary to chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh between 2004 and 2009.

When Charanjit Singh Channi became the chief minister in 2018, a probe was ordered against Chandra on the charges of malpractice, but he was given a clean chit in the case.

Vigilance bureau DSP Varinder Gill, who led the team, told media persons outside the farmhouse that the assessment is being made on the complaint that of the total 10 acres of land acquired for the farmhouse, seven acres belong to the forest department.
