Drug addict caught trying to steal silver lamps from temple in Ram Darbar
As per temple authorities, the accused, later identified as Arun alias Chikla of Phase 1 Ram Darbar, had stolen around eight silver lamps from the temple around five days ago and had been caught in the act on closed-circuit television cameras installed there.
A drug addict was caught red-handed while trying to steal silver lamps from a temple in Phase-2, Ram Darbar, on Saturday.
As per temple authorities, the accused, later identified as Arun alias Chikla of Phase 1 Ram Darbar, had stolen around eight silver lamps from the temple around five days ago and had been caught in the act on closed-circuit television cameras installed there.
While he managed to successfully whisk away the silverware in his first attempt, he wasn’t as lucky the second time.
Bachan Dubay of Vishwakarma Mandir said that after he was caught, temple authorities immediately identified him as the same person who had been caught on camera stealing the lamps, and handed him over to the police.
As per the police, Arun is a drug addict and was stealing the lamps to fund his addiction. The stolen items were recovered from his possession after his arrest.
A case under Sections 380 (theft) and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Sector 31 police station.
The accused was produced before the court and sent to judicial custody. As per police records, Arun already faces two other cases of theft, registered at the Sector-31 and Sector 34 police stations.
