Ferozepur: Army pays tributes to slain soldiers, officers

Golden Arrow Division, under the aegis of Vajra Corps organised an event at Ferozepur on Thursday, to honour and commemorate the soldiers and officers, who have died in the line of duty.

Golden Arrow Division, under the aegis of Vajra Corps organised an event at Ferozepur on Thursday, to honour and commemorate the soldiers and officers, who have died in the line of duty.

The event, based on the theme ‘Swatantrata ke Sanrakshak’, paid tributes to the ‘fighters of freedom’ as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations.

Lieutenant General Nav K Khanduri, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command was the chief guest for the event.

“It’s a proud moment to be the part of the mega event being held today to honour and commemorate the supreme sacrifice made by our courageous army men,” said war veteran Lt General (Rtd) JS Dhillon, who commanded an army unit at Hussainiwala during Indo-Pak war in 1965. Lt Gen DS Dhillon (Rtd) led 2 Maratha Light infantry in 1965 Indo-Pak war in battle of Hussainiwala bridge, Ferozepur.

The day commenced with a wreath laying ceremony at Prerna Sthal in Hussainiwala Enclave, located 11km from Ferozepur, followed by paying of homage at the Samadhi of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru.
