Police on Monday said it arrested two persons, after they jumped a check point established by it near the government polytechnic college here and while attempting to flee from the spot, the duo almost crushed down a policeman, it added. The police also claimed to have recovered 10 grams of heroin, which it said was covered in a packet and thrown away by arrested persons from the vehicle they were travelling in.

Gunshots had to be fired at one of the rare tyres of the vehicle to intercept the trespassers, who were later booked for the charges of attempt to murder, police added.
When signalled to stop, initially driver of the vehicle slowed it down but later fled from the naka, while attempting to crush down a gunman of Mohit Dhawan, station house officer, Ferozepur. However, a police team followed the vehicle (sedan) and fired upon one of the rare tyres to capture the duo, which included driver of the vehicle.
The arrested persons have been identified as Rajbir Singh of the village langeana and Maan Singh, a native of Ferozepur city.
When contacted, Surendra Lamba, senior superintendent of police, Ferozepur confirmed the incident, adding that while fleeing from the scene, the duo threw a packet out of their vehicle which was later seized by police and was found to be 10 grams of heroin.
“A case under section 307 of the IPC and NDPS act was registered against the duo while further probe is on,” said SSP Lamba.
