The arrested, Saurabh Patial, alias Phandi, and Kulbhushan Thakur, alias Lucky, from the Banjar area are the main conspirators and had meticulously planned their escape in advance to evade arrest, said officials.

Along with them, Dheeraj Dharmani, Surya Chandel and Anil Kumar have also been arrested for helping the accused.

Police said they received information on July 8 that one Sunny Gill has been attacked by two individuals near Mandi Bharari. A case was registered at Sadar police station under Sections 126(2), 115(2), 352, 351(2), and 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and a special probe was launched without delay, said officials.

Multiple special police teams were constituted. Probe revealed that within just 24 hours, the accused changed eight vehicles, travelled exclusively on link roads, avoided CCTV cameras and police checkpoints, hid in the dense forests of Barthin and Banjar, and kept their mobile phones switched off to avoid technical surveillance.

During probe, it also emerged that several others helped them by providing vehicles and other logistical support to the accused.

The main accused are being brought to Bilaspur. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are thoroughly examining the case.
