City Beautiful has officially been entrusted with hosting the third Asian Relays Championships 2027, with its flag presented to Punjab governor and UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria at the UT secretariat on Friday.

The flag was formally handed over to Chandigarh during the closing ceremony of the second edition of the championship in Shaoxing, China, and brought back by UT sports director Sorabh Kumar Arora.
Kataria said Chandigarh is honoured to host the prestigious continental event – the city’s biggest international sporting competition since the 1989 Asian Rowing Championships. He announced that the Sector 7 Sports Complex will be upgraded to international standards, with the administration ensuring world-class infrastructure, security and event management.
He added the championship would inspire young athletes, promote athletics, boost tourism and showcase the culture and heritage of Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana.
Organised by the Asian Athletics Association, the championship features Asia’s top relay teams competing in men’s, women’s and mixed 4x100m and 4x400m events.
