Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Chautala on Sunday said that Haryana Vidhan Sabha speaker should fulfil his promise to take action against people of the ruling parties involved in “distribution of money” to woo the voters during Ellenabad byelection held in November last year, if his claims are proved.

Alleging the use of muscle and money power, Abhay said that government machinery was misused in Ellenabad byelection. He said so while interacting with reporters on the sidelines of party workers’ meeting in Samalkha of Panipat district.

“I have already started the process of collecting affidavits as my workers are visiting people in Ellenabad and taking their testimonials to prove that people of the ruling party and government employees were distributing money in the bypoll,” he said.

“Even the speaker has assured action, but I don’t think that he will take any step as he is working to protect this government,” he added.

Abhay said if he failed to prove his claims, the speaker should move a privilege motion against him for making false claims on the floor of the House. “But if I prove my claims with affidavits of hundreds of people from Ellenabad disclosing names of those who distributed money in the byelection, the speaker should take action against them,” he added.

Abhay, who had retained INLD’s lone Ellenabad seat in the Haryana assembly by defeating his BJP rival Govind Kanda by a margin of 6,739 votes, also accused Congress’ Bhupinder Singh Hooda of supporting the BJP-JJP candidate in the by-election. He alleged that the Congress was also working as a “B-Team of the ruling BJP”.

Earlier, while addressing party workers, he urged them to reach out to every household in the villages to strengthen the party on the ground by appointing booth and ward-level office bearers.
