Two Jharkhand natives have been arrested for allegedly duping a Patiala man of over ₹3 lakh via an online transaction, police said on Saturday.
The victim had lodged a complaint on the “Pratibimb” app of the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal three days ago. Following this, a Jharkhand police team headed by Musabani deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Rohit Kumar Rajwar was constituted to investigate the matter.
“After collecting evidence from various sources, including the police technical cell, police arrested the two accused from Jharkhand’s East Singhbhum district,” said Jamshedpur City superintendent of police (SP) Lalit Meena said.
“The accused sent a link to the victim and duped him of ₹3.08 lakh. Smartphones of the accused have been seized. Both of them are residents of Khairbani Bakisol area under the Dumaria police station limits,” he said.
The police also seized their PAN, Aadhaar and ATM cards, bank passbooks and transaction details. The two accused disclosed the involvement of another person in the fraud, the SP said, adding that efforts were being made to arrest the third accused.
