Karnal boy’s family awaits his body five days after his death in Canada

Local media reports in Canada revealed that the incident took place at the intersection of Yonge Street and St Clair Avenue on Wednesday when Kartik was hit and dragged by a pickup truck in midtown

Family members of 20-year-old Indian Student Kartik Saini, who was killed after being hit and dragged by a truck in Canada, are still waiting for his mortal remains in Karnal even after five days since the incident.

“We have urged the government and Haryana chief minister (Manohar Lal Khattar) to take requisite steps to ensure the speedy arrival of Kartik’s mortal remains,” his cousin Praveen Saini told HT.

Local media reports in Canada revealed that the incident took place at the intersection of Yonge Street and St Clair Avenue on Wednesday when Kartik was hit and dragged by a pickup truck in midtown.

Family members and relatives of the youth have been at his residence ever since the news of his death broke on Thursday morning.

“We request the authorities to take more efforts to bring his body back so that the family can complete his last rites,” he added.

“We have assisted the family in getting touch with the Consulate General in Toronto and it has assured all possible help. There are standard operating procedures in such cases and we are working closely to get the process expedited,” Karnal deputy commissioner Anish Yadav said.

Kartik is survived by his parents and a younger sister. His father Joginder Saini is a businessman. He left for Canada for higher studies in August last year.
