Kurukshetra: Man dies of electrocution, another dies saving him

Two men including ex-serviceman died of electrocution at Bir-Mathana village in Kurukshetra district on Friday night after they came into contact with a high-voltage power line, police said on Saturday.

While Shamsher Singh, 42, died after touching the high-voltage power line accidentally, his landlord Prithvi Singh, 62, who retired as a Subedar, was electrocuted when he rushed to save him, the police said.

According to the police, Shamsher, an auto-rickshaw driver who lived in a rented room on the first floor of a house in the village, was cleaning his room around 9.30 pm when his hand accidentally came into contact with a high-voltage power line passing close to the structure.

Hearing his cries for help, Prithvi rushed to rescue him but came into contact with the live wire and suffered a severe electric shock, local SHO Randhir Singh said.
