A Lashkar militant was killed in an encounter in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday. The militant has been identified as Owais Raja of Subhanpora.

“Based on a specific input regarding the presence of a terrorist in Charsoo Awnatipora village , a joint cordon and search operation was launched by police, 42 RR and 130 battalion CRPF. As the search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon them, which was retaliated effectively. In the ensuing encounter, one terrorist was killed and his body was retrieved from the site,” a police spokesman.
“He (Owais) was a part of group involved in several terror crime cases including attack on security forces,” he added.
Inspector general of police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, termed this operation very important. “This operation took place very close to the national highway and threat was imminent.”
Police said that incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one AK-56 rifle, three AK magazines and 80 AK rounds were recovered from the site of encounter. A case has been registered and investigation has been initiated.”
