Ludhiana: 14-year-old boy feared drowned in Sidhwan Canal

According to police, he went to the canal with a group of friends to swim when he reportedly lost control and was swept away by the strong current

A 14-year-old boy is feared to have drowned in the Sidhwan Canal near Daba while swimming with friends on Sunday evening, police said. Rescue teams searched the canal till late Monday evening but could not trace the teenager, they added.

The missing boy has been identified as Anmol, a resident of New Satguru Nagar in Lohara. According to police, he went to the canal with a group of friends to swim when he reportedly lost control and was swept away by the strong current. Anmol’s father, Deepak Kumar, said he began searching for his son after the teenager failed to return home. During the search, the boy’s friends informed him that Anmol had disappeared in the canal while they were swimming. He then alerted police and a rescue operation was launched.

SHO Paramdeep Singh of Daba police station said the boy was not traced despite extensive searches. The search operation would resume on Tuesday.
