A burglar fled with a bag containing gold jewellery and cash from a marriage palace on Pakhowal Road while wedding celebrations were underway on Sunday, police said.
According to police, the stolen bag contained gold ornaments and envelopes carrying cash. The venue was crowded with guests at the time of the incident. CCTV cameras installed at the palace captured visuals of the suspect fleeing with the bag.
The bride’s family alerted the police after noticing the theft. The bride’s father said the bag was kept close to them during the function. “I stood up from my chair for barely a minute when a man wearing a black coat and turban picked up the bag and ran away. We raised an alarm, but he managed to escape,” he said.
The palace management said they handed over CCTV footage to the police. SHO Jagdev Singh said a case was registered and footages were being examined to identify the accused.
