Ludhiana: Fix choked sewer or face penalty, mayor says to contractor

Inspecting the choked sewer lines on Sua road in Giaspura area, mayor Inderjit Kaur on Thursday issued directions to get the work rectified from the road contractor or impose a penalty. During the inspection, area residents complained that the contractor hired for constructing the road had dumped construction waste into the sewer lines, causing the lines to get blocked and sewage to accumulate on the road.

Further, the mayor stated that no laxity would be tolerated and strict action would also be taken against the officials concerned if anomalies were found. Stating that the sewage should be cleared from the road at the earliest, the mayor said the residents should not suffer due to the mistakes of the contractor.

She also directed the officials to ensure that no manhole cover is broken or missing as this may cause accidents. She said surprise inspections would be conducted in the city to check the situation at the ground level in the coming days as well. Superintending engineers Sham Lal Gupta and Ekjot Singh among other civic body officials were present during the inspection.
