Dugri police have registered a fresh case after crucial documents went missing from the file of a 2018 cheating case.

Police said the original case was registered in June 2018. During a recent review, officials found that key documents — including the original compromise deed, cheque and agreement papers — were missing from the file.
Investigating officer ASI Surjit Singh said the discrepancy came to light during the probe, following which a case was registered against an unidentified person. Police suspect the documents may have been misplaced when the file was moved across police stations in different districts for legal proceedings. However, the exact circumstances surrounding their disappearance are yet to be ascertained.
An FIR under Section 380 of the IPC has been lodged, and further investigation is underway to trace the missing documents and identify those responsible.
