In a major rejig, the state education department has transferred 35 Punjab Education Services (PES) officers. As for Ludhiana, Baldev Singh, principal of GSSS, Sarabha, has been appointed as district education officer (DEO, elementary), while the charge of DEO (Secondary) has been given to GSSS, Butaheri, principal Harjit Singh — who had earlier remained on the post from February 2021 to April 2021.

Former DEO Ludhiana Jaswinder Kaur, who was holding both the elementary and secondary charges, had been transferred to GSSS, Kangniwal, Malerkotla. She was handed over the latter charge following the retirement of incumbent officer Lakhvir Singh Samra in February, which came during the model code of conduct in the wake of assembly elections in the state. Thus, no new appointments had been made.

In the new orders, Kaur has been given the additional charge of DEO (Secondary) Malerkotla. GSSS Kundanpuri principal Anita Gulati, meanwhile, has been transferred as DEO (Elementary) Moga.

Harjit Singh, who hails from Rara Sahib, Ludhiana, has pursued two master’s degrees in English and public administration from GHG Khalsa College, Sadhar. He said his key focus will be on ensuring quality education and the overall development of the schools.

Baldev Singh, meanwhile, completed his post-graduation in English from SCD College, Ludhiana, and holds another master’s degree in public administration and a BEd degree. He hails from Jodhan village, Ludhiana.

“I will focus on creating a healthy environment for both teachers and students at government schools under my jurisdiction,” he said.

The duo will assume charge after Tuesday.
