The weather brought no respite for city residents as the bone-chilling cold persisted on Wednesday — with the temperature dropping to the lowest for January 4 since 1970, the meteorological experts at the Punjab Agricultural University centre said.

Experts said the temperature was 7.3 degrees lower than normal, adding that the conditions are likely to prevail in Ludhiana for at least the next three days. (HT Photo)

Experts added that the cold weather and foggy conditions will continue for the coming few more days.

The city recorded the maximum temperature at 10.2° Celsius, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 5.8° Celsius. So far, December 25 has been the coldest day of the winter season, with the maximum temperature dropping to 10° Celsius — only 0.2 degrees lower than Wednesday.

Experts said the temperature was 7.3 degrees lower than normal, adding that the conditions are likely to prevail for at least the next three days.

Speaking of the same, PAU climate change and agricultural meteorology department head Dr Pavneet Kaur Kingra said the temperature was the lowest maximum recorded since 1970, when the meteorological observatory was established to compile weather records.

Kingra said such weather is favourable for rabi crops, but care and protection were required to protect vegetable crops. She added that there was no possibility of rain from western disturbance for three days.
